Que Vida Más Triste

"Ahora todo el mundo saca esos blogs, esos diarios de internet en los que cuenta su vida cotidiana en farragosas líneas de texto. ¿porque no cogen la cámara, se graban contando sus miserias y lo cuelgan directamente en la red?"

"¿Y por que no lo haces tú?"

"Tienes razón, lo voy a hacer, cada domingo y de resaca."

En esta ocasión, el tema va dedicado a “Que Vida Más Triste”, serie de humor online surgida a mediados de la década pasada, donde se nos presenta la vida de Borja Pérez y sus infortunios día a día. ¿Y de qué va?

ANTECEDENTES: DOMINGO 27 MARZO 

Que Vida Más Triste comenzó como una serie de humor online, creada por Natxo del Agua y Rubén Ontiveros, con guión y dirección de Rubén Ontiveros. Protagonizada por Borja Peréz, Joseba Caballero y Nuria Herrera, la serie presenta la vida de Borja, un gruísta residente en Basauri, España, desde su perspectiva, semana tras semana, filmada mayormente en la casa de Borja en la vida real.

De acuerdo con Rubén Ontiveros, "estamos acostumbrados a ver películas de superhéroes, de gente que le suceden cosas extraordinarias, de ganadores, de personas que supera lo problemas y triunfa...la vida no es así. Borja representa un poco de todos nosotros, es un perdedor al uso, con el que todos en algún momento nos podemos sentir identificados", lo cual es reflejado episodio tras episodio; en la perspectiva de Ontiveros, "Borja es ese pequeño perdedor que llevamos dentro, pero desde un punto de vista tan sincero que resulta muy divertido."

TÍPICO COMENTARIO DE PERSONA QUE NO TIENE NI P*TA IDEA

A lo largo de cada episodio de QVMT, veremos las desventuras e infortunios de Borja, consecuencia de sus intenciones (que no siempre suelen ser las mejores), acompañado de su mejor amigo, Joseba Caballero, quién trata de ser una (quizás mejor) guía moral para Borja; Nuria, pareja ¿ocasional? de Borja, y muchos amigos y familia por conocer.

En sus inicios, los capítulos duraban apenas un par de minutos, por lo que es sencillo seguir su narrativa; en mi opinión, con apenas un par de capítulos, la historia tomaba gran fuerza, mientras conocíamos a la familia de Borja y la singular perspectiva de este sobre la vida.

 

Durante las primeras 3 temporadas, veremos un arco argumental mayormente enfocado en los problemas que surgen entre Nuria y Borja, y en mi opinión, es aquí cuando la mezcla de reflexión y humor se hace más presente; los problemas por los que pasa la mayoría de los personajes son tan comunes, que es probable que algún conocido o nosotros mismos hayamos pasado por una situación similar; el giro viene cuando conocemos a Borja, dado que moralmente, es una persona muy singular (a veces grosero, descuidado, egoísta...), y en vez de buscar una solución a los problemas que surgen, parece agrandarlos cada vez más y más.

Poco después nos damos cuenta de que su familia y amigos son parecidos: nos muestran personajes que, como nosotros, están llenos de virtudes y defectos, pero que sin importar lo que suceda, siguen adelante, unidos. Personas reales.

A partir de la cuarta temporada, QVMT da un salto a la cadena televisiva de España "La Sexta", y aunque se tratan ciertos temas de las temporadas previas, se hace un enfoque mayor al buen humor de siempre. En general, todas las temporadas han sido de mi agrado, ya que tratan de mantener un balance entre momentos de risa y seriedad sin importar la temporada.

En caso de ofendernos fácilmente, esta serie probablemente no sea indicada para nosotros. Desde 10 personajes afroamericanos que llevan el mismo nombre, el trato de Borja con las mujeres y los hombres, su (falta de) respeto a las minorías, a la cultura y hasta a su propia familia, no podremos evitar la risa con la manera en que cada situación sale de su control.

Quizás, nos demos cuenta de que hay un poco de Borja en cada uno de nosotros; a pesar de todo lo que hace, es posible percibir que tiene un buen corazón, y entonces, nos encontraremos hablando con un buen amigo, o porque no, con un poco de nosotros mismos.

PARA TERMINAR 

Que Vida Más Triste marca una de mis series favoritas de comedia, por todos los ingredientes que mezcla: su ingenio y su simpleza resaltan bastante. Creo que cada uno de nosotros interpreta y aprecia las obras que observa de una manera particular. QVMT es una obra llena de humor y reflexión a la que regreso cada cierto tiempo desde hace un par de años, y sin duda, en cada ocasión que la veo, aprecio nuevos detalles.

 

Hoy en día, el equipo detrás de esta gran serie ha tomado diferentes caminos, con Borja y Rubén trabajando en nuevas series, como “Los videotutoriales de Borja Pérez”, enfocado en el mundo de los videojuegos y presentado por VaDeJuegos.com, o su más reciente trabajo, "Basauri Mirror", una propuesta muy interesante narrativa y gráficamente, pero manteniendo el buen humor que nació en QVMT. ¿Quizás en algún futuro podremos ver reunidos a todos una vez más?

Mi más sincero agradecimiento a todo el equipo, y un fuerte aplauso por crear una serie llena de mucho amor, cariño y sinceridad, donde lo más importante no es seguir el éxito de un ganador extraordinario, proteger la Tierra de una terrible y oscura amenaza, o descubrir una cura para salvar a toda la humanidad; lo más importante aquí, son las personas y su día a día, que aunque puede ser a veces muy rutinario, no deja de ser algo increíble y especial. Nada más, nada menos.

"Now everyone is launching those blogs, those internet journals in which they tell their everyday's life in crowded lines of text, why do they not pickup the cam, record themselves telling their miseries and upload it directly into the web?"

"And why don't you do that?"

"You are right, I'll do it, each sunday and with a hangover."

This time, the topic will be “What A Sad Life”, an online humor series from the middle of the past decade, where we are introduced to Borja Pérez' life and its misfortunes day by day. What is it about?

BACKGROUND: SUNDAY MARCH 27

What a Sad Life started as an online humor series, created by Natxo del Agua and Rubén Ontiveros, written and directed by Rubén Ontiveros. Starring Borja Pérez, Joseba Caballero and Nuria Herrera, the series presents Borja's life, a gruist, resident in Basauri, Spain, from his perspective, week after week, filmed mostly in Borja's real life house.

According to Rubén Ontiveros, “we're used to watch films about superheroes, about people to whom extraordinary things happen, about winners, about people that overcome their problems and triumph... life is not like that. Borja represents a small bit of all of us, he's a loser, with which at some point, we can feel identified”, which is reflected episode by episode; from Ontiveros' perspective, “Borja is that little loser that we have inside, but from a perspective point so sincere that its funny to watch it.”

TYPICAL COMMENT FROM A PERSON WHO HAS NO F*CKING IDEA

Through each episode of WASL (QVMT in Spanish), we'll see Borja's missadventures and misfortunes, consecuence of his intentions (which are not always the best), with the company of his best friend, Joseba Caballero, who tries to be one (perhaps better?) moral guide for Borja; Nuria, casual? Borja's lover, and a lot of friends and family yet to know.

In the beginning, the chapters would last barely for a few minutes, which is why easy to follow its narrative; in my opinion, with just a few episodes, the story gets stronger, while we met Borja's family and his particular perspective about life.

 

Through the first 3 seasons, we'll see an argumental arc focused mostly in the problems between Nuria and Borja, and in my opinion, it's here when the mix of reflection and humour is mostly present; the problems which most of the characters go through are so common, that it's likely that someone we know, or ourselves have gone through a similar situation; the twist comes when we meet Borja, due to his morals, he's a very singular person (sometimes rude, careless, selfish...), and instead of looking for a solution to the problems arising, he seems to make them bigger each time.

Shortly after, we realize that his family and friends are alike; we are shown characters that, like us, are full of virtues and flaws, but no matter what happens, they keep going forward, together. Real people.

From the fourth season, WASL changes to the spanish television network “La Sexta”, and even if some themes from previous seasons are revised, it's more focused on the usual good humour. In general, all the seasons have been of my liking, as they try to keep a balance between funny and serious moments, no matter which season is.

If we get offended easily, this show may not be suited for us. From 10 afroamerican characters with the same name, the treatment of women and men alike, his (lack of) respect to the minories, culture and even to his own family, we couldn't avoid laughing with the way in which each situation goes out of control.

Maybe, we'll realize that there's a little bit of Borja in each one of us; despite of what he does, it's possible to perceive that he has a good heart, and then, we'll find ourselves talking with a good friend, or why not, with a small part of us.

TO WRAP UP

What A Sad Life marks one of my favorite comedy series, due to all the ingredients mixed; its cleverness and simplicity are truly highlighted. I think each one of us perceives and appreciates the works seen in a particular way. WASL is a work full of humour and reflection to which I go back from time to time since a couple years ago, and without doubt, every time I see it, I can appreciate new details.

Nowadays, the team behind this great series has taken different paths, with Borja and Ruben working together in new series, like “Borja Perez' videotutorials”, focused in the videogame world and presented by VaDeJuegos.com, or their most recent work, “Basauri Mirror”, an interesting proposal, narratively and visually speaking, but with the good humour born in WASL. Perhaps in the future we'll see the whole team together again?

My sincerest appreciation to the whole team, and a big round of applause, for creating a series full of love, affection and sincerity, where the most important thing is not to follow the success of an extraordinary winner, protect the Earth from a terrible and dark menace, or discover the cure to save mankind; the most important here, are the people and their everyday life, and even if it can be a bit repetitive, it never stops being something incredible and special. Nothing more, nothing less.
